I have posted my problem in Avira support forums, however they are extremely slow with their responses. I posted last Sunday and have received only one reply. Just wondered if there was anyone here that has experience with this software that might know why it is causing my computer to crash. The scanner runs fine until it gets to the registry then the PC shuts down and reboots with a message stating that the system has recovered from a serious error( the page goes away so quickly that I cannot read much else, as far as the error number). The real time protection is working fine but I have not yet been able to run a complete system scan. Here is a link to my thread in the Avira forum:

In case there may be a software conflict Here's what I use:

I am using Avira Antivir Personal for Windows, Version 9.0.0.408
Comodo Firewall, along with spywareblaster for real time protection.

I also use these as scanners only(no real time protection enabled) Superantispyware, Spybot S&D, Adaware

I am running Windows XP SP3

Try to disable Comodo momentarily, turn Windows firewall on and run the scan again.

Also using Avira AntiVir (free edition) on Windows XP Home SP3.
Can do full Scans with Avira WITHOUT disabling my Comodo firewall or uninstalling all other security programs as suggested at the Avira site.
Doesn't make sense to uninstall everything and leave yourself wide open like that.

Hi Broni. :) Sorry I have been really busy lately and haven't had a chance to post a reply. I disabled the firewall and the scan ran without incident. I guess I'll have to switch either Avira or the Comodo firewall, as it seems they are incompatible for some reason. Now to decide which one. I saw that Comodo had an antivirus, maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks again Broni for your time. :)

I just checked in on my thread at Avira support forum. They recommended that I uninstall all other security utilies and run some kind of fix:rolleyes: I think I have a fix for them in my "add or remove programs ":p

I use Avira Premium along with COMODO firewall on my desktop and I have no problems what so ever. Now I use the just firewall and Defense+, no AV, no toolbars, no DNS thing they just came out with. I also use the max security option during install.

In their October 2009 issue PC World has an article evaluating six free AV's and the COMODO AV came out last (6th).

You might consider trying Avast Home. I use it on my netbook with XP Pro SP3 along with the COMODO firewall.
