Hi everyone, I have a Win SBS 2003, w/stations running XP Pro. Only one user can not log on to server, with error message "can not load your roaming profile..... "
I have no idea. I created a new domain user, and use it log on from the w/station. There is no problem. I then copied (maybe the wrong way) old profiles to new users profile folder. Now I got same error message "can not load roaming profile... "

Then I copied old profile from server to a USB hard drive. After log on from w/station using new username, I copied the old profile to w/station, eg documents, desktop, email. Now I got different message "Windows cannot copy file c:\... to location \\servername\$profiles\.... possible cause of this error include network problems or insufficient rights. If this problem persists.... "

Does anyone have experience about this error? Please help.

I don't know hows it works on 2003 SBS by in olden days on NT Server I would rename the user's profile on the server with ".bak" extension. Have the user logon and a new roaming profile would be created. The user then must manually recreate any mappings.

    Hope it helps.

To the best of my knowledge you cannot copy the original profile to the new profile. The reason this happens is that something in the original profile is corrupt. I was never able to find a way to diagnose or repair the original. Make sure to assign the new profile the appropriate permissions and check that the mappings are correct for any user scripts that may apply to the user. All other user drive mappings will have to be completed when logged on as the user. That's the best I can offer.

    Good luck.

Something like this happens occasionally with my users. If you go into computer management and check the error logs it will typically tell you what caused the error when trying to load the roaming profile. It usually lists right down to which file it is. One time one of my user's profiles couldn't load because she had a very very very long name for something in her favorites in internet explorer and it wouldn't bring it over.
