I have a Gateway 3520 laptop which needed a drive replacement. Upon installing the new drive and Windows XP, the laptop will not load the OS. I can see the main XP loading widow followed by a blue screen that flashes by quickly. I can see the message invalid work queue item. Any thoughts? I installed several copies of XP and reseated the drive, memory and wireless card. I should note the unit will load the OS in safe mode.
    Thank you

Are you Booting off the XP cd which is a MUST DO situation?

Reason I ask, is I've never heard of Safe Mode if you're booting off the cd.

I actually installed XP from CD and after the install completed, the OS will not load, I get a blue screen, I can however, use safemode to load the desktop.

It's now a mute point, I formatted the disk with long version of NTFS and the machine appears to be fine. I'm now on Gateway's website downloading drivers. I do appreciate your kindness.

    Thank you.
