    Hi

I am using OE version 8 and have had some folders 'emptied' after a compress.

I have a backup of the email store folder which I have restored to another location. I tried a copy / paste on one of the missing folders. It seemed to work as the size altered But it is not recognised by OE. I have tried deleting the folders.dbx folder. It gets recreated but ignores the contents of the folder I have restored. I have tried restarting XP - still no luck. The Import feature only seems to support OE4 and OE6 - anyway does not work either.

    Any ideas very welcome?

    Regards

Although you may be running IE 8 you are still running OE 6 - that is the last version and has been superseded by first Windows Mail and now by Windows Live Mail.

Copying a *.dbx file to the location of your message store (Tools > Options > Advanced - Message Store) should replace the existing .dbx folder of the same name if present. Note that OE must be closed.

Ensure that the file you are copying in is not Read only which it may be if copied off a CD.

Another approach, if you are wishing to add content to an existing folder is to create a new folder and drag the contents of the folder you intend to replace into it and then delete the folder to be replaced.

It is possible that your back up files are corrupted in which case DBXtract may assist in extracting the mails.

    Hi Petec

I am pretty certain that the backup files are corrupted. None of your suggestions seemed to work. Even DBXtract failed to find any files and substituted the Inbox!

Guess I'll just have to get on with my life ...........

Silly of me not to see that it was OE 6.
