Resolved How do you play MKV files?

though nothing seemed definative.
Anyone know of a reliable converter?

 

try VLC www.videolane.org (can't remember if it plays MKV)
or you need to get the proper codec www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html

 

The player won't install.
Not sure how to do the codec. Do you just drop the file into the WMP directory?

 

run the file it will install the codec and you will be able to play mkv files with WMP

VLC plays EVERYTHING at least everything Ive every used it for Not a wise comment - deleted by Moderator

 

As far as i know VLC plays everything without having to add codecs, but since i haven't "had" any MKV files for a while i wasnt sure about MKVs

 

The Matroska site is messed up.
Downloaded the codec from another site and I'm watching the video now.
