    System:
    Windows 2000
    Desktop PC
    AMD athlon MMX 1.2 Ghz
    256MB RAM
    40GB HD
    File Sytem: FAT32

I have beeen running W2K for about a year now but recentley I have experinced probkems with it crashing on a regular basis.

The crash seems to be happening at ramdom, the system freezes completeley are requires a re-boot.

No error messages are recieved and when I try to reboot the system the white W2K screen with the blue bar moves across the screen and stops about half way across. This is occuring several times until finaly after about half a dozen attempts W2K boots up and runs nornally, until the next crash. This is happening neasrly every day.

I have tried a cold reboot between crashes and it doesn't make any difference.
I have run a disk scan, and check if the drive needs defranmenting.

Should it try converting to NTFS?, security is not really an issue here, but will it be more stable on the NTFS file system?

    Any suggestions?

    Paul:confused:

This could be an over-heating problem. Try opening the case and check all fans, remove all dust/dirt that you can see. HTH :)

    Thanks Luga

I will give that a try.
Now you mention that my fan has been making some strange noises recentley. SOmetimes it is very loud and other times it runs quiet.

    I will investigate further.

    Paul:)

    Hi Paul,
I had a similar problem with my old 686. It crashed randomly from the day I got it. Over the years I replaced the mother board, hard drive, operating system and I can't remember what all. Finally, I replaced the power supply and it was fine from then on. Don't know what was wrong but it made all the difference in the world.
Thought I would pass this info on.
    JIM
