Itsa AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core 5000+ and neither drivers are showing in device manager along with the audio, a pci bridge and the UMBUS root enumerator.
When booted I have to hit F1 to continue to get vista to load and the keyboard will do that or del and take me to bios no other keys wrk. Once loaded I dont have a keyboard and only a usb mouse will wrk.
I wanted to do a repair so I asked him for his install cd and got a vista upgrade dvd, which will not give me anything after loading all the files it just goes to that blank vista background.
Im thinkin I need to reformat....
    Ideas?

Right click on each device, select Properties, then select the Details tab
Click on the dropdown box there and select "Hardware ID "

    Let us know the:

Make and model of the system (make and model of the mobo if it's a custom build).
PCI devices - the 4 characters immediately after the VEN_ and the 4 characters immediately after the DEV_
USB devices - the 4 characters immediately after the VID_ and the 4 characters immediately after the PID_
All other devices - please let us know the entire string of characters.

What happened to the system from what Device Manager normally looks like? Are there warnings or errors listed in Device Manager? You talk about devices that apparently don't work.

Different models have different hardware listings. You can't compare a Device Manager on one AMD computer to another, unless it is a very similar model.

It "sounds" like the motherboard/chipset drivers have not been installed. [Was there a drivers disk supplied with the system?]

    Rereading, mmmm....
That means a problem in the BIOS (startup settings). Go into the settings at startup, look for a setting "... Defaults ", load that. Choose "Save and Exit ", usually the F10 key.

A note: "n2" and "hafta" is frowned upon here, we need to use proper English to convey information to people that might read this with only a basic grasp of the language or that don't want to have to decipher. Read in the forum rules.

That is a bit "iffy ". If he has an upgrade version, you should use his original install disk/system. It is probably not critical, but when you used your XP disk, basic drivers were probably not installed that would have been if you had of used his installation.

You haven't answered John's question about the system.
