    Hello everyone.
On my second computer, the one my kids use. Somehow Java was uninstalled. They play runescape on line which requires Java to play. They have been playing for months. All of a sudden a message comes up and says, runescape requires Java to play, Java is not detected on this computer, click here to install. When I try to install everything seems fine with the download and all, but when it goes to install i get an error message:

error 1606, could not access network location, %appdata%\.

Vista is installed on this computer. I have tried to install numerous time and it will not install. What should I try next? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks,
    Sal

Try the program JavaRa, which removes old and redundant versions of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) here

Hi lascapa. The reason that Java won't install is because the java installer can't access this directory, C:\Users\User Name\Application Data. Take ownership of that directory and then try installing java again. For information regarding how to take ownership of a file or folder read this, How to take ownership of a file or folder.

    Thanks for the reply,
I did fix it. I had to go in to the registry and make a change, here is what i did.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type Regedit.exe, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

I had to change the APP DATA line to match this:

    Value name Type Value data
    AppData REG_EXPAND_SZ %USERPROFILE%\Application Data

    Thanks for the help.
