I've been using IE8 for several months, and almost everyday I check out the IE add on page to see if there are any new useful add ons. And have never had a problem until a few days ago when I went to the page and all of a sudden the background fades a bit, and a prompt comes up saying this:

"We noticed you are currently running an older version of Internet Explorer. To take advantage of these new features, and get a faster, safer and easier browsing experience, we recommend upgrading to Internet Explorer 8 now. "

The things is, I'm already using IE8! I thought at first this was telling me there was a newer version, so I clicked the button to download it and proceeded to install the browser. Turns out, it's just the same version I already had. And even after installing it, the add on page is still giving me this prompt. Is this happening to anyone else, or is it just me? Or could it be the page itself?

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition with IE8 version 8.0.6001.18702

Wait a day or two and try it again.

Thanks Steve, I will. This isn't really a major problem though, it just does this when I goto the main page. After I close the box, and browse through the other pages the prompt doesn't appear. It's just making me wonder if there's anything I might have disabled without realizing it. Other than that, it could just be a hiccup on their page.

Me thinks its a site glitch....I just now tried to click the "Problem with ieaddons.com" link at the bottom and had problems.

You might try reporting the issue to MS..They're pretty cool about things like this.

I kind of figured that. :D
At least I know it's not a problem on my end. Thanks Steve.

Try resetting IE 8's settings by going to Tools > Internet Options and then under the Advanced tab click the button titled Reset. If that doesn't work, I suggest reinstalling IE 8 yet another time, but this time download it from somewhere different like http://www.browserforthebetter.com?ocid=ie8_sm_a and see if it works then. That url directs you to a site where you can download IE 8 and donate 8 meals in the process to Feeding America, so don't worry it's a Microsoft website.

I hope this helps you out.

Create a new user account and that should fix the problem.

Delete the cache and cookies. The site uses javascript to detect what browser you are using and it also uses cookies to store that info as well as other info. I suspect that a script is failing to read a cookie properly and/or failing to execute completely. Deleting those files may clear things up.
