Attempting to copy pictures to CD. I receive the msg the file is too large for the CD. How do I copy half of the pictures to one CD and then the other half to another CD. I tried to click on just 1/2, but it didn't work. There must be a simple way, but I can't figure it out. Terry

If you have a CD burner, then you may already have CD burning software installed.

Check to see if you have any CD burning software already installed. Some common brand names associated with CD burning are Nero, Roxio, Sonic (perhaps a stripped-down version of a popular retail brand name, such as "Nero Express ").

If you already have CD burning software installed, then determine whether it has "data disc burning" or "packet writing" capabilities.

If you want to archive collections of images, then you might probably opt for a data disc burning feature of CD burning software (instead of "packet writing ").

If you want to simply copy/paste image files to CD-R or CD-RW in Windows Explorer, then you would probably need to enable packet writing capabilities of your CD burning software or download and install a reputable freeware/shareware/trialware packet writing software package.

Hi 1942LEEWA, are these pictures or photos? If you want to burn photos to CD have a look at Google Picasa 3 which is free. What number of pictures are you talking about? Hundreds or thousands? Neil.

I do have cd burning software (roxio) as I have previously copied pictures. However this time I have about 500 pictures and receive the msg that this CD does not have enough free space for all your files and to reduce the files. My question is how to copy 1/2 of these files at a time so I can get them all on 2 CDs. Thanks Terry

Open Windows Explorer and find the folder that contains the photos you want to bun to CD. Create 2 subfolders and give them unique names - File - New - Folder and name it CD1 , File - New - Folder and name it CD2.

Then drag half of the photos to one folder and the other half to the other folder. As long as neither of the 2 new folders is larger than 700MB, you should be able to burn each one separately.

Virginia: I used your tip and was able to copy about half of the pictures, however I have created another problem somehow. For some reason I now have the file copying every picture in the file. As fast as I can delete a picture another copy pops up! I now have 15-20 copies of each picture in the file and it is impossible to copy now to CD as the file is too large. How do I stop the constant copying? Terry

    LEEWA,

Sorry you ran into a problem using my suggestion. I have never experienced that exact problem so I am at somewhat of a loss. I Googled your problem and didn't find much except for this link - http://http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-2561047.php

The gist of the link is that sometimes this problem of duplicate copies of photos mysteriously appearing may be caused by how the mouse, drag and drop feature, and the CTL and Shift key combinations are executed. If you aren't able to find relief in the article at the link, perhaps someone on this Board with more experience will be able to give some insight.

I will be away for the Richmond, VA NASCAR races for the next four days.

    Terry,

Glad I could help and thanks for posting back that the problem was fixed. I don't get to help with many problems on this board because the pros usually beat me to the punch. I'm back from the races.
