confused

First, I'm a beginner at this. Why is it that those little x's are appearing in the boxes instead of pictures are whatever should be there? Are my settings incorrect? How can I correct this problem to remove all those x's? Please help! Thanks!

First, Go to tools/internet options/advances and make sure there is a check in the box to show pictures.

Little x's everywhere

I've posted this before but the help was not satisfactory. How can I get the downloaded pictures instead of the x's in the little box? I went to Tools/Options/etc...and there is a check by show pictures. What else can be the problem?

I did try your solution:
View/Encoding/Western Euro (Windows)
It did work on some parts of the page. But when I download my emails the pictures are not showing up...only little red x's. Even while I'm posting, I see the x's where the smilies faces should be. Also, my fonts are fuzzy now. Thanks for your help!

 

Hmmmm..... interesting.
Try this: right click on the desktop and choose properties to get to the display properties dialogue, then click the effects tab. You'll see a checkbox for smooth edges ....take the check out.....if it's there?

If you're running Norton's?
Disable norton internet security and retry to rule that out as the possible cause of all this.
