I installed some older software on my wife's HP with XP SP2. The software was installed using compatibility mode. It all worked great Saturday, and Sunday. But, today nothing would work at first. Couldn't even uninstall anything. Now all of a sudden all 3 programs work. But I would like to know what might be causing this problem? The computer is a 2002 HP with 640 megs of RAM and a 1.53 AMD CPU.

What are the name of the programs?

Please describe in great detail what is "doesn't" do...And what it should be doing.

    (1) Print Artist, WIN 95 version, (2) Print Shop Deluxe, WIN 95 version, (3) Microsoft Best of Entertainment, WIN 3.1x version. All 3 programs are on 3 1/2 floppy discs. When I installed them I used "Compatibility Mode for WIN 95 ". My wife used these programs quite a bit on Sat. and Sun. But today when she went to go to Print Artist nothing happened. She tried unsuccessfully a few times on all 3 programs and they wouldn't start. This was through Start-Run-Programs; there are no shortcut icons for these. She even (at my suggestion) put the Print Artist floppy in and went to my computer, floppy drive and right clicked on it and clicked "Open ", nothing. While I was posting this she went to Start-Run-Programs-Print Artist and it worked. She checked the other 2 programs and they worked. So, you might wonder why I am posting this? I think there might be a bug in the system and am wondering if someone might know what it is. Chances are it could happen again. So, if anything, maybe we could base this on "It Still Doesn't work?

She gets quite cranky when WIN XP doesn't work or if I play with her computer without her being around. She begrudgingly switched to WIN XP so her new digital camera would work; and also it is a faster computer.

Have you tried doing a Disc Cleanup and maybe a defrag? For the Disc Cleanup, put a check in ALL the boxes and let it finish. If it has been awhile since this has been done or never done, it will take a while to do. Let it finish. Then do a Defrag.

You may need to create shortcut icons for those, and set those shortcuts to Win95 compatibility mode.
