Do any print cartridges contain print heads any more?

Some years ago, I bought a HP OfficeJet G55 all in one printer. It uses print cartridges that contain the print heads so that you get a new print head every time you buy a new cartridge. It works great and continues to work great although the cartridges are getting harder to find. Recently I bought a new Canon printer where the print head is more or less permanent and new cartridges contain only ink and do not include a new head. After some months of usage, the print heads clogged. New print heads cost almost as much as a new printer so it makes no sense to replace them. Meanwhile, my old printer continues to work just fine. And so my question is:

are there are any new printers that continue to use the old method of selling new heads with new cartridges? if not, why not?

and does anyone know which brand of print head clogs least often ?

    Thanks for any comments.

I wasn't aware, Canon was doing this, because as far as I remember only Epson was going with fixed print heads.

Since my first note, I went to Best Buy and asked the salesman if he had any printers that still had print heads contained in the cartridge, and he told me that he didn't have any printers like that of any brand. So as far as I know nobody does it any more. Too bad !!

    Hi Roger,
I have been using the same two Canon printers for years now, an i850 and an i9550, and on the very rare occasions when a print nozzle has clogged the cleaning cycles have cleared it. It may take several cycles, but in the end it has always worked.
You may have to differentiate between clogged nozzles, when the test pattern will usually show lines across the test pattern, and a firmware failure which usually means the loss of a complete colour.
It is possible to buy cartridges filled with a cleaning fluid, and if a lot of cleaning cycles are needed it is possible to carry them out using a cheap compatible cartridge before re-installing the Canon cartridge.
The Canon print heads should clog very rarely using Canon Inks, but the best way to prevent clogging is to print regularly, not to leave the printer unused for very long periods, and to actually switch it off after use so that the printer can park the heads correctly.
Certainly don't give up on Canon if you do a lot of printing, it is by far the cheapest photo quality printer in ink usage. For eight years now I have used compatible inks, and refilled my cartridges myself when necessary which has reduced my cost of inks by at least 75%. I won't mention the source of my inks, that would be advertising!

    Roger
