I don't know how Outlook 2000 works, but with Outlook Express you have an option to NOT save mail on your server. You can find this in TOOLS/ACCOUNTS/PROPERTIES/ADVANCED. The path should be close to the same in 2000. Now just configure it to not save mail or, if you want, to save mail for X amount of days.

Is this what you wanted to know? Once you download mail from the server into your box, you can't get it again by going to the actual servers web page mailbox.

I just reread your letter and now I'm confused! LOL. Tell us EXACTLY what you want to do and then maybe we can tell you EXACTLY if it can be done....or not.

Thanks Panda for your reply. But that is not what I was looking for. My question was about deleting a SELECTED message, a specific message, a single message, from the mail server.

Say you have received a message that your antivirus program told you that it was infected with something. Now you want to delete that message, not only locally from your hard disk, but also from your remote mail server.

You are right, I can adjust Outlook to delete ALL messages after downloading them. But I want to keep them. I need only to delete a SELECTED message, in this case, the infected message. I can login to my mail server using a web browser and delete it. But my question was if I can do that using Outlook itself?

I used to do all my mail using Lingomail, a much more superior mail client. Using Lingomail, you can open a window that contains all messages in your mail server, allowing you to remotely delete any number of selected messages. You can also sort all messages in server according to date, size, from..etc
I dont see these options in Outlook 2002. So, am I missing something? or is Outlook not as good?

What virus checker are you using? With my Norton, I have it set up to automatically quarantine the virus and then daily I clean that box out. Then I just delete the offending mail from my trash box in OE. It doesn't sit on my server any more because I downloaded it to my computer. Once you download from the server, no mail sits there any more. I don't know how you are able to check your mail on the server and have it tell you that there is a virus sitting in the mail. Unfortunately, I don't think you can log in to your server FROM your Outlook without downloading all your mail at once.

I did a search on this bulletin board and came up with a few hits for other mail programs. Maybe something else will be easier and better for your needs.

Check THIS one and THIS one.

I'm still looking for alternate answers on this. Holler back if this didn't help.

    :)

Panda, I do not want to delete all my messages from server after downloading them, as I told you before.
and I did not say that my antivirus check my mail at the server, my antivirus checks my mail during the downloading process.

forget about viruses, I was just giving an example. The buttom line is: I need to delete a specific message, when I want, from my mail server. I dont find a tool in Outlook that does this.

I understand what you want to do, but I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying. Sorry for the misunderstanding going on here.

You CAN'T delete mail from your Outlook BEFORE you download mail from your server. The only thing you can do is to check your mail on your server first to see if there is anything suspicious before downloading it to your inbox, and then just delete from the server first. Or, you can check out some other mail programs which will let you check out your mail before downloading it and then you will be able to delete any offending mail first. I can't remember the names of the good ones, but I have seen them mentioned here before and hope SOMEONE jumps in and offers you these other, great mail programs. I'm sorry I wasn't any help.

Just for your info........I really like Norton and think it would be a good investment to put it on your computer. It will stop 99.9% of all viruses coming into your computer. It would be worth checking out.

    :)

Might want to look at www.mailwasher.net

It shows you the mail sitting on the server as they come in. You decide which ones to download..

I agree with Steve R Jones

MailWasher allows you to preview your mail and delete ( off of the server ) the ones that you do not wish to download.

It can also warn you about being possible Spam or if it may contain a Virus.

I do not want to delete all my messages from server after downloading them,

Can't comprehend your reasoning there. Why not ? If you do not it will eventually load up the mail box.

THANK YOU, GUYS!!!! I thought that MailWasher was the one he needed, but thought there might be other choices out there and just wasn't sure which ones I had read about in here. I'll have to remember that one for future reference.

Sallam......does this sound ok to you? Let us know.

Thanks guys for your help, but I was trying to find a way to do that in Outlook itself. I cant imagin that such a famous Microsoft software cant do such simple task within itself!
But, perhaps someone knows better. Perhaps someone, one licky day.., can tell me I can do that using Outlook, and show me how.
Thanks for trying to help me guys...
