Hi Everyone :) I have in my possesion an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor(notebook), and would like to use it in my laptop. I am not sure if my motherboard(or the rest of my hardware/software for that matter) is compatible. Could anyone point me in the right direction. The laptop is the one listed under "my system ". If any more info is needed I would be more than happy to supply it. I am comfortable with changing out the part and installing any necessary software, however, this is my primary computer and I can't afford too much down-time at the moment. That is, if this CPU will even work in this computer. I have visited AMD's website, and they have a motherboard compatablity checker but they need too many specs about the CPU that I don't know. All that's printed on the chip itself is AMD Athlon 64
X2, and some other numbers that I can't find any reference to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I am sorry to have to give you the bad news, but your current CPU is Intel and the one you intend to use is AMD that is incompatible. For an AMD CPU you need an AMD Motherboard.
To correctly identify your AMD CPU the Identification is on top under AMD you should see a number 3800...... and more or any number up to 4800, but then you also have two different sockets Socket 939 and Socket AM2 and again they are not compatible so you will have to establish if you have the 939 that has 939 pins or AM2 with 940 pins.

Thank you Hawk22, for your reply. You saved me a lot of trouble, I'm sure of it. I do, however, have a question regarding identification of the AMD CPU for future reference.

This is what they refered to on AMD's website, but I see no such number listed anywhere on the CPU. These are the numbers listed:

    Top label:
    AMDTK55HAX4DC 1793092H70867
    CAARG 0734DPMW 2005 AMD
diffused in Germany made in Malaysia

    Bottom label:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2

That's all that is markedon the CPU with exception of a number in gold writing:29273

And as far as pins are concerned, I counted them and it totals 638 pins(give or take)which is considerably lower than 939 or 940.

The socket it came out of is a Foxconn Socket S1.

On another note, do you know of anywhere I can find a compatible CPU for the motherboard I have.

It looks like you have a not to common CPU here, Socket S1 was mainly used only by manufacturers OEM.
From what I could find out S1 Motherboards are hard to find.
    Laptops only.
This are the specs of your CPU:
    Athlon 64 X2 TK-55 1800 MHz 2 x 256 KiB 800 MHz 9x 1.075/1.10/1.125 V 31 W Socket S1 Aug 20, 2007 AMDTK55HAX4DC

Not much around for that Board you have:

Intel (R) Pentium (R)M processor 1,60 GHz. CLOCKS (Core#0): Core speed 598,5 MHz. Multiplier x 6.0. Bus speed 99.8 MHz. Rated FSB 399,0 MHz. MOTHERBOARD: Manufactures Quanta Model 308F Chipset Intel i915GMS/i910GML

Sorry not to be able to help you more.
