I use XP Home SP-3 with IE 8. When I open the task master (alt+ctrl+del) The close "X" which normal;ly appears in the upper right corner of the icon is missing. As a result, to close the task manager, I have to shut down and reboot. Is there a fix. Would a system restore be appropriate??

Do you have an "Exit Task Manager" in the file menu?

    If so does that work?

Double click your mouse in a blank area surrounding the Task Manager window. The minimize, maximize and close icons should then appear.

Really a workaround - Whiskeyman's suggestion is the way to go :)

Agreed, however to be fair I and perhaps stef08 read the problem as lack of close button not lack of title bar and menu.

    Hi telephonics,

Please try double clicking between the right horizontal scrollbar and the desktop. e.g. NOTE the X ;)

Look at that image again, Don't right click on the desktop double left click on the whitespace between the data and the desktop.

Click the area next to Task Manager's tabs.

Reinstall Task Manager. To do that:

Click Start , click Run , and then type the following command:
%systemroot%\inf and click OK or press enter.

    Browse to the file mstask.inf
Right-click the file, and then click Install .

You may be asked for your windows XP setup cd.
