    Hey,

I boutg a HP F300 printer about 3 years ago. I moved my computer recently and tried reinstalling the printer. I have the USB cable plugged in, teh power cord plugged in, the cd that came with printer and yet i still cant install the printer. I installed the software from the cd (i think) but my comp says it cant find any printer.

Is the USB cable supposed to go in any particular place? Ive just slotted it inin teh back of my pc wherever i could find a usb slot.

On my USB printer I had to install the driver first and then a screen came up to plug in the printer.

Either you did or or didn't - it's rather important to install the printer software which will include the drivers:) Sort yourself out.

I have experience with Epson printers only, but the general gist is to install the software with the printer OFF and only to switch it on when requested. Read the manual re. installation.

    Latest drivers, etc here ....

Didnt work. I reinstalled it twice to be absolutley sure. When it prompted me to connect the USB cable, there was a box that said something along the lines of "check this box if you're unable to connect device now. You can do so at a later date ". I connected the printer and tried to uncheck this but it wouldnt let me. Now when i go to bring up the software alll i get is a message which reads No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

Installation of HP printers seems to be a real PITA - there have been many threads on the subject on the BBS.

I've edited your thread title further to draw in the Hardware guys familiar with this problem.

Just something you might want to try is using a different USB port or a different USB cable. Maybe the port or cable is bad.

make sure the cable is connected but the power is off then istall the software when promted turn the printer on windows should then detect it and install the drivers. If this does not work then unplug the USB cable from your computer and replace it into another USB port if this still doesn't work replace the cable and make sure that the printer actually turns on when you press power button failing all the above i'd say it's probably time for a new printer and most of the lower end HP printers/scanners can now be had for a lot less than a $100 bucks it's cheaper than trying to get it repaired
