    hello,
Its been for months that the Date and Time of my system changes of its own. Every time I set the time and date of the computer in the next 1 or 2 days it changes of its own?

what could be the problem? Is it any virus infection.
    plz help
    thanks

    Hermant,

You seem to have numerous problems/questions about your computer and if you don't mind me suggesting, it may be better for you to concentrate on one issue at a time.

However in answer to this query, have you tried changing your CMOS battery? Loss of date/time or clock running slowly would indicate a drained battery.

Hi Hemant. In addition to what wildfire suggested try going into the date and time properties and click the time zone tab. Make sure the computer is using the correct timezone and ensure that the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes checkbox is checked. After thats done click the Internet Time tab and ensure that the checkbox Automatically synchronize with an internet time server is checked. For the server name make sure it says time.windows.com and click the update now button. When you are done hit apply and ok to close the window. Reboot the computer and see if the time changes again.

Thanks Evan but in my opinion this sets a dodgy precedent, although your suggestions are valid if this is a CMOS battery failure the solution above would hide (not solve) the issue and perhaps other more difficult issues would rear their ugly heads.

    Edit:

Perhaps initially suggesting that the poster doesn't synchronize and seeing if the time drifts/changes would be the better course of action?

I guess that would be a better suggestion. Hopefully by having the poster replace the CMOS battery like you said above, it would rule out a hardware problem and thus the issue would be OS related. I thought I would post my suggestion since it would give the OP 2 solutions to tryout.

After reinserting the CMOS battery(though I was supposed to change it) the time and date
problem is fixed but a new problem has arised.
Now, when I turn monitor off (for some heavy downloading ) for hours and re open it ,the
system restarts.I 've marked "never" to all in Power Options in Control Panel performance and
    maintenance still it restarts.

    thanks

So for now the date & time problem is resolved. It will be back shortly most likely, so replace the battery!

For your new problem, please post a question in the Hardware forum.
