    Hi there,
I am having problems with taking ownership! Vista is a bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ok, here we go...
I had a windows xp computer. It died because of condesation on the motherboard.. but the HDD was fine. So i got an enclosure for the hdd on my old computer connected it and expected to drag and drop files of my music to my new laptop....
    ****ing vista. XC

Then I got windows saying that I didn't have permissions and access was denied... So i took own of files and folders. But I dont know how to take own of my whole music folder. So I have to TAKE OWN INDIVIDUALLY. Its irratating me and I have 650 songs to take own of... time consuming as you see. when I try and drag drop all my songs this is what i get... "Destination folder access denied, you'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file, continue, skip, cancel." Then its got a tick box at the bottom saying do this for all current items found(608 found). I taken ownership of the folder musix, but it has my admin name down twice in the take ownership saying, full control and read/execute. I cannot delete the read/execute option.

PLease help, this will take ages doing it individually! :D lol

    Cheers,
    James

Just double click on reg file, and allow registry merge.
Restart computer, and when you open Windows Explorer, and you right click on any file, or folder, you'll see "Take Ownership" option.

Hi thanks! I added this reg key to the external hard drive, I don't think it would work if I just put it on my laptop, so i put it on the laptop and external HDD. :D Cheers

    From the link Broni supplied:

Now, the don't tell you how to do that, but you'll have to double-click the file & click yes when asked if you want to merge the information to the registry.

Not quite sure why this works, but it sure helped me out with the files on my old XP drive. I think you should consider the post RESOLVED.
