I just got a new ASUS Netbook as our "walk-around" box. It has XP Home Edition (one reason I chose the brand!).

Unlike my other two computers, which just go to the desktop display at start-up, this box goes to a screen for Live Messenger and one called "Today" which is some kind of diary/task reminder. Tog get the desktop, I have to click these other two windows off.

I've tried to find a way of disabling them so the desktop comes up, but haven't succeeded.

    Ideas, anyone?

The messenger will open usually 2 different ways. One on boot up and also when opening OE. In OE, go to Tools, Options and in the General Tab, take the check out of the box that says Automatically log on to Windows Messenger. This was what it was before Windows Live Messenger. The other place to do this at is when it is sitting in bar beside the clock (notification area), double click on it to open it up and then go to Tools, Options, General and take the check out of the box that says Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows. You should be set now.

Thankyou, Goddez1. I still have to work on getting Live Messenger not to start when I start MSN Explorer, but at least the Live messenger screen and "Today" don't pop up at start-up any more.

I discovered I can't run my MSN Explorer browser without Live Messenger being installed on the computer. That's liveable, but getting switched to the latest of our three computers on the account to start Explorer is a pain.
