Guessing that you're asking if it's "safe. "

I don't think you can disable msconfig...expect by renaming it. Why do you want to do this?

    Hello gabieke,

I think you have answered your own question, in a manner of speaking. I believe msconfig was developed as an appi for those requesting an easier way to access many tools, files and applications in one interface as opposed to having to open many applications and in many cases do things manually, that may not be so easily reversed. It is a very handy and user friendly tool. One that is a system standard and same/similar for all.

After win98, additional tab was added that gives access to various tools that one uses on a regular basis or may need to run when trouble does occur. It may no longer be the better tool but it is one of many that still may be user preferred.

It is handy for tshooting bootup problems as well as variety of problems/functions. Temporary/experimental system changes can be done and undone with a click or check. Nothing need be permanent or require more painful or stressful procedures.

I could prattle on but will rap this up:
in short it is meant to be a perk, treat, an appi keeper, convenience.....etc. :)

    Hi again,

I'm not quite sure what your doing or asking at this point. If your trying to stop or control your startups via msconfig, keep in mind that not all startups can be stopped or controlled with this tool. Other places are involved, startup folder for example or options within the programs themselves.

You may be interested in this:
    startup control panel

If your asking if you need to keep using msconfig, the answer is no. Just make sure your using a "Normal Startup ". I feel that Msconfig is best used as a trouble shooting tool and any temporary changes, you wish to keep, should be made, using a more permanent method. Many users, however, have used msconfig, regularly to stop some startups, without any ill effects. This is a user preference.

If you want to delete or uninstall it somehow, I would say NO. Just forget it's there. You may need it somewhere down the road.

If I'm still off the mark on what it is you are asking, I'm sorry. I may be just be to tired to get it right, been suffering "brain fry" lately. :)

    Hi Gabieke,

You have asked "no stupid question ". There are no stupid questions, on this board. Your most welcome and thank you for the update.

If you would, could you please mark this post as resolved, it helps the moderators, who would have to do this?
