Resolved IE8 displays site mangled

Yes! Yes!!! I'm using Vista Home Premium with IE8. Can someone please give advice if there is a way to set IE8 to display one site correctly. I think most sites come up correctly, but Liveleak.com comes up with headlines and sentences underneath those headlines all overlapped.
I say "most sites" because others display incorrectly also, such as http://bostonherald.com/.

I'ved tried the compatibility view thing but that helps not. I've tried bringing down the font size, but no go. But then again, one should not have to change font sizes anyway when visiting various sites.
Ironically, I seldom go on this site, but I'm interested to see if there's a way to fix the settings in IE8 so it will display correctly.
Opera and even Firefox displays this site correctly. Anyone with an idea as to overcoming this? I'd upload a screenshot but beats me how one does that on here.

 

O great one, temporary files / history etc is emptied on an ongoing basis. And I feel so ashamed Pete, I mean, here you were posting and me knowing very well you were posting and I on purpose fly right into editing!!! My, I feel like hurling myself right out in front of a parked locomotive. :-}

Now that something is awry in my IE8 (or elsewhere) is a given. That you are having no problems and I have no problem in Opera, or even Firefox leaves one in great amazement. If you do happen to come up with something Pete, let'er rip. I'll appreciate the help. Thanks for your input.

 

Thanks for the efforts & help PeteC. Basically, the helps on this site are scan for spyware / malware / viruses.
I've at least four of these that I use on a constant basis along with Norton 360. It seems to me at least, this is a problem within IE8 itself, especially since Opera & Firefox display these sites flawlessly. It's been doing this since IE7 & then IE8 were installed. Anyway sir, if you happen to light upon something that would be a fix, let me know. Thanks again for coming in on this.

What version of Norton 360 do you currently have installed? Please let me know.

For compatibility with Internet Explorer 8, you need to have the latest version installed, which is version 3, and the exact version number should read "3.0.0.135 ". If you are using Norton 360 version 3, mouse-over the "PC Security" bubble and choose "Check for Updates ". If any updates are installed, restart your computer and then try to access those sites again.

I am using the latest version of Norton, Norton 360 vs 3.0.0.135. Rebooting of course, does nothing as to correcting those sites.
As I say, the words are overlapping, i.e. Headlines are running together with the sentences below those headlines.
Only certain sites do this (actually 2 that I can think of) and all else displays well. Browsers such as Opera or even Firefox will display these sites flawlessly, but not IE8. If you've something else up your sleeve Mike, say on sir. I'll appreciate any pointers or instructions.

Thanks for your response. Since you have the latest version installed, the issue you are having is not related to Norton 360. I would first suggest that you uninstall IE 8 and then reinstall it to see if that resolves the issue. Also, run the "Run File Cleanup" option in Norton 360 to clear out all of your temporary files.

If the problem persists then restart your computer into Windows Safe Mode with Networking, launch Norton 360 and then complete a Comprehensive Scan to check for infections.

Don't know if this will be of any value to you but I use Avira antivirus and when this page was loading I received an alert for infection called:
html/infected.webpage.gen

Page did load fine but I had taken the precaution of denying access to the flagged file.

It may have been a false positive or some iframe goof but I thought I'd let you know.

 

Thank you Mike & goddez1 for your suggestions. Mike, I shall try your suggestion when I get back home tonight. Also, will not a complete uninstall wipe out my bookmarks? And where does one find those in IE8?

Goddez1, I've been biased towards Norton for years, but if all fails, there is no reason why I at least could not run your antivirus, at least on a temporary basis. I appreciate you coming in on this.

Ok folks - did the Norton 360 scan in Safe Mode. Nothing turned up. I unnstalled IE8 and noticed that IE8 mangled the same sites that IE8 does.
Having downloaded / re-installed IE8, of course I have the same problems. Weird and wonderful? Yes! Any further ideas as to how to overcome this problem, please advise. Thanks!

 

Now here's something mighty peculiar. I've used Firefox for the last two days and a site I had problems displaying in IE8 displayed 100% in Firefox. Then tonight, the same problem that was in IE8 appeared in Firefox - the mangled text.
Now why am I thinking there has to be some flashdrive or plugin causing this or etc?
Does this give anyone an idea as to what might be causing this?

 

Ok --- finally I found on Microsoft Forums the problem why IE8 was not displaying correctly on Liveleak.com or BostonHerald.com.
I was told to to into Internet Options / General / Accessability and there I had "Ignore Font Sizes
specified on Web pages" checked.
Simply unchecking this feature brought everything back to normal immediately. Thought I should post this for others that might run into the same problem.
I've appreciated the efforts on this forum, and although it was dragged out, I thank all who participated.
