    :confused: What could be going on here? All of a sudden my husband's Gateway laptop with WinXP Pro is typing the following whether in lower or upper case and whether in Word or Google:
    o=6
    i=5
    l=3
    k=2
    j=1
    m=0
    p=*
    u=4

    We have Avast for anti-virus, Ad-Aware, and Spybot. I've run all three with no problems detected (we're pretty good about maintenance).

    Anybody have any idea?

    It wasn't the number lock, I guess

    Steve, I finally found a button called "Pad Lock" (couldn't find any that said NUM). I pushed it, and It turned the number pad in the middle of the keyboard ON!

    Different numbers, though. The numbers corresponded with a regular number key pad. The numbers I was getting before didn't. Please see my first note.

    Now, believe it or not, I can't turn off the Pad Lock.

    I contacted Gateway by online chat. They were no help.

    This seems to be getting worse and worse. I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

    Steve... Could their FN button be stuck/malfunctioning? That's how I have to use the "number pad" on some of my laptops, instead of the NumLock key.

    I would check that, too, just to make sure something hasn't lodged under the key, or caused it to stick?

    Problem solved

    Cuistech and Steve, I finally managed to get a manual downloaded, and the Pad Lock was the number lock when pushed together with the FN key. When I turned it off, I was back to the letter keys working properly.

    Problem solved. Thank you.
