I am an inexperienced Silver Surfer and have ordered W7 to be up to date.
I'm told that clean install is the safest way to install W7, I am also told that in all probability all my existing programmes will be lost. Is there any way I can avoid losing the programmes and having to re install them, pretty please ?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

A clean install as recommended formats the drive so everything on it is lost. It is not possible to copy programs off a drive; when a program is installed the bulk of it will go into Program Files, but many other files will be installed deep within Windows itself together with many entries in the Registry.

A complete reinstall of the programs on your new OS is required after a clean intall.

Rememer to backup all your important data before making a clean install or it will be lost.
