Starting just this afternoon (~3 PM [-5 GMT] Wednesday, 8/12/09) my personalized Google News homepage is inaccessible. It will not show up in either Firefox 3.0.13 or Internet Explorer. Instead I get a generic, starter version of the page. I have even copied my custom hompage's URL and pasted it in the address bar, but the Google News page that keeps showing up is with the generic format and content. I'd like to have my personalized page back.

    Help?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm sure I must be missing something here. The Google News page I have now (that is, the present one -- since August 12th -- which is not my "classic" version that I have in mind) is this one: http://news.google.com/news?ned=:eP...T8w2tGPrcexSckti-ymj_YmNKzfnFxpqTn5yYAwBmVyaW
I personalized this one without signing in. It never has been necessary to sign in just to view the Google News page. You just type in "http://news.google.com" and there it is. In the past t was only necessary to sign in to it if I wanted to make major changes to it. the page above, however, can be changed without signing in.

Am I the only one who has lost my favorite, personalized Google News page? Unfortunately, there's nothing similar to the problem I'm having that I can find on the web. And there's no help for it on Google.

P.S. I had found a way to turn off the thumbnail pictures that appear in every lead item, but now I can't do that anymore. These thumbnails are just eye-candy and don't do anything helpful except take up space.

Sorry to sound ungrateful, but I don't want iGoogle, I just want the news. OK, I may be picky, but that's what I had with my Google News page up till 8/12.

    Thanks anyway.

If your cookies are turned off, you won't be signed in automatically when you go to your personalized page.

I just made one and it signs in from a desktop shortcut.

I have never, ever turned my cookies off. I know what they do and why they are needed. Again, I have to say that you don't need to sign in to a Google News page and I never have had to do so. However, to test the system, and to give your suggestion a fair chance, I first signed in to Google and then opened Google News with my old (pre-8/12) personalized link, and it came up to the same unpersonalized page.

So, thanks, but I guess that says it all.
