I am running WinXP Pro on a server and have been trying to install the most current version of Zone Alarm on this machine. It is a virgin machine and I wanted to get all the goodies (AVG, CCleaner, SpywareBlaster) installed before I really start using the machine.
The error "True Vector Monitor has encountered a problem and must close" continues to appear and Zone Alarm will not initialize.
Can I not install Zone Alarm on a server? I have tried everything that I could find by Googling and nothing seems to work.
I welcome any suggestions as to what I can use - but my favorite is still the Zone Alarm.
    Thanks.

I have hated ZA with a passion from day one. Main reason is that they use undocumented 'hooks' into Windows, and when MS comes to update some files in a security update this has resulted in ZA users losing their Internet access (which they then blame MS for, but they should blame ZA instead) on several occasions.

Now, ZA has a forum, I suggest you have a go there to see if they can help you.

    Thanks Arie.

Would you recommend another program that I could use?

This is the first time I have encountered this problem other than when they updated and something happened that one of Microsofts patches was not compatible. I guess I felt "protected" simply because of the animated icon that Zone Alarm uses. I like to know when things are going in and out.

I don't know what Arie would recommend.

However, Comodo's firewall also has an animated icon in the System Tray that displays incoming vs outgoing traffic. I expect some other firewalls would have such a feature as well.

There are several software firewalls (some free, some pay) to choose from, including

I am not sure whether I would recommend Comodo to others or not due to recent developments regarding their ethics and/or reputation in other matters.
I have not investigated other firewalls.

I downloaded Online Armour, but how difficult or involved is removing Comondo since I now am using it as my firewall instead of Zone Alarm.
Or am I just reacting in fear with regards to Comondo and the article above.

I currently trust (and use) Comodo's firewall.

I have never read any similar negative "reputation issue" articles regarding Comodo's firewall.

Comodo's firewall seems pretty effective controlling traffic (as far as my "layperson" view can see) and I still see malware analysts, Windows BBS staff, and other reputable people suggesting Comodo's firewall.

Therefore, I continue to use Comodo's firewall. :)

However, the negative publicity regarding Comodo's apparent issuing of SSL certificates to dubious clients causes me to keep my ears to the ground and eyes open. If I start to feel uneasy about Comodo's firewall, then I will switch to another firewall.
