My system has a MSI KT6V motherboard with 2 IDE hard drives I have SATA RAID controlled by VT8237.
I would like to install a SATA 500GB hard drive. Will my motherboard support such a large drive and am I likely to have any compatability problems?
I have googled for KT6V large drive support with no luck.
    TIA

I don't think you'll have any problem with sucha small ;) drive on a SATA controller.

Thanks for your guidance Arie, maybe I was being a bit too cautious!

AFAIK the size of hard drive would give problems in older systems with IDE (or EIDE) drives, but not for systems with a SATA drive, since SATA was 'only' officially formed in 2004.

500 GB will hold alot of date but it depands on your chose as put it as a primary master or slaving it.. I suggust that you create a back up patition on that hard drive and alocating it with more memory space(eg: 400GB). Check and see if your mother board has a SATA drive port... It there is one then you will have no problem ... Just adjust you bios setting during bootup...

SATA doesn't have Primary / Slave configurations. Every SATA drive is on a single connector.
