    Hi,

I've been directed here from the Malware/Virus Removal forum. In the of the process of getting rid of a virus, I used ComboFix. It seemed to run smoothly, but after the fact, I could connect to my wireless network but my browser cannot display the webpages. Additionally, it does not work when I'm directly connect to my router or modem. I took my computer to an ITS friend, and they tried an external wireless card, and it also didn't work. After some other troubleshooting with the malware analyst, she has a feeling that something is internally wrong with my computer.

I'm welcome to any troubleshooting suggestions. Thanks very much.

OK, What's the current state of affairs?

Juliet suggested this may now be a hardware issue (probably drivers). In device manager (Start->Run->devmgmt.msc) can you list what is shown in Network adapters (Click the + if required), note if any ! or ? is shown alongside. Also see if anythingis shown under Unknown devices.

I've scanned over thye malware thread and this does not appear to be a hardware issue. It is very unusual for both network adapters to fail at same time. I suspect corrupted system files or corrupted drivers.

I suggest using Device Manager to uninstall the network adapters, one at a time, and reboot after each uninstall. Windows will autodetect the "new hardware found" at boot and install the necessary drivers.

I will go about uninstalling and reinstalling. Do you still want the list of network adapters?

    They are:

    -Cisco Systems VPN Adapter
-Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI Card
-Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection

    Sorry Tony,

Poor choice of words by me, I tend to think of drivers as being "hardware related" (perhaps a better phrase). I'd guess Juliet was thinking along a similar line.

I uninstalled the drivers and installed the wireless card and wireless connection. Still unable to display a webpage in my browser.. and now I don't even connect to my wireless internet anymore. It just keeps trying to acquire a network connection. Another thing I noticed was that my computer kept auto-detecting a network adapter called "Deterministic Network Miniport," but I stopped the installation because I wasn't sure what that was. One last thing is that when I installed my network adapters again, a window popped up saying that they didn't passed the Windows logo test and that continuing with installation was not ideal because my computer is unstable.

What to make of this? Also, what else should I do?

Haven't heard from you guys in a while. Should I consider my computer a lost cause? Thanks for your help.

Reading tidbits via Bing search per above program may possible have bloodlines involving VPN/Cisco client software. Has this computer every been used / configured for business use/communication/email??
If yes, contact system administrator for computer. Reading further into some threads, above program can be a handful to uninstall if no longer required.
