My Windows Media Center in Vista will not respond when I launch it. It states that "Media Center has stopped working" and then closes the program.

I have tried running 2 different registry cleaner and fix programs and nothing is working. I also installed Catalyst a second time and still not working.

    Try running sfc /scannow.

Also: look in the Event Viewer - do any of the Media center services stop?

    Windows Media Center

I ran the sfc/scannow and it stopped at 69%. A message directed me to the CBS log but I could not find this log either in a DOS window or in Windows. At the 69% point the message was "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them ".

I also checked the Event Viewer and found the error where Windows Media Center tried to launch and then failed. There are no other programs attached that the log referes to.

Let me know if you need to see the Event Log message.

    Thanks for responding,

    Bill Ziletti

You can find it here: %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

    CBS.log

I am logged in as the administrator and "Access is Denied ". I used a DOS screen to search and then also searched on drive "C" for CBS.log and it did not find the file.

    Other suggestions?

    Thanks for your help,

    Bill Ziletti

Copy the file to your Documents folder.
