    Hi,

    I have 3 Windows XP Pro PC's and one Windows 2000 Server with up-to-date SP on it in my network. They all connect to internet via a 802.11g TPLink router. I want to make W2K box a so-called 'controller and gatekeeper' of the network, I guess this would be called a proxy server. W2K box will not be dedicated but there is not a big load on it, only a webserver IIS ver5.0 serving out few photo albums occasionally, very light load.
    The specs for W2K server:
    DELL Optiplex, P4 1.8GHz, 1 GB memory, 80 GB harddrive, CDROM

    Now, what I want to achieve is:
    * keep tabs on users to see which websites, ftp sites, etc they visit, when, how frequently
    * block users from accessing selected websites, services
    * filter out harmful material
    * also give me a simple report on what the load of my internet connection is, which users are up/downloading stuff and what % of traffic they create.

    Is there some tool(s) I can use on my W2K server, preferably free, that will give me all this?
    Thanks

    Here's one my organization's network uses.
    That's apparently NOT free and I am familiar with it only from a workstation point of view. I have never seen it from the IT administrator's point of view. Perhaps you can telephone them and get pricing information (along with answers to your questions).

    I can say iPrism is pretty effective at keeping me away from shareware download sites anyway (which ticks me off a little). :)

    Have you done any of your own searching via Google with appropriate keywords? Have you looked around at various shareware download sites (such as MajorGeeks)?

    Goldeneye OS not free, DAT inspection software, Cookie capture and inspection, Upgrade the router to a content control version, the Netgear ones not the entry level ones(sorry more expense)are quite good at it. BT supply a router which also provides content control via groups and don't quote me from what I can remeber will email notification alerts. Most of this stuff comes almost in the malware spyware bracket as it keylogs and records, If it is employees you will have to notifiy them that their activities are being monitored, and etc etc steps wil be taken if etc. Not much point in monitoring with no enforceable action as a result. Upgrade the 2000 box to the server version and you can use ISA bolt on which wil provide some degree of monitoring and control as this will have to be set as the proxy server.
