Sudden dissapearance of IE. Worked normally this morning but this afternoon i could not get online. The only thing that has happened today was an auto download of an MS update.

I have checked tools but cannot see anything untoward, that is everthing looks as it would normally.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, Jules.

If thats XP then you have failed IE7 to 8 update, try kicking off IE from a search for the Executable IExplore.exe found in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer it might restart the upgrade. Once you done that or failed. get a download of Firefox from some one near and dear and install that.

No one can see that if they don't have a MySpace account, so I suggest you post relevant information here.

Yes - as I recall the first posting worked - the second led to the same login page as the link above, but I was unable to circumvent that using the first link to see images posted subsequently.

Try Photobucket or similar - not experienced problems there.
You'll need to expand on that - do you mean that IE has literally 'disappeared' from your computer?
    By double clicking iexplore.exe?

Will above may have a point although you should have received the IE8 update some time ago I would have thought.

Have you tried a System Restore to a date prior to IE's 'disappearance'? That would be my first choice followed by a fresh install of IE 8 which may or may not work ....

    IE Running from program.

    Hi Pete,
The program is still available. Tried to run from "iexplore.exe.mui" received msg. "cannot open file ".
Ran System Restore, twice, could not restore to any previous time.
    Ran virus check-nothing.

IE has been slow (nothing new) even after installing IE8.

Have reset to default to try and overcome the problems with add-ons before, but it is more hassle and an increasingly frustrating experience when you are dependent on the net to solve practical problems.

Is it maybe time to drop IE and give Firefox a chance?

    Frustrated, Jules.

    . That's the wrong file :) .....
or Start > Run > iexplore > Enter

    Let us know what happens.

Firefox and IE will cohabit comfortably - both can be used simultaneously - so that's a workaround to give you (hopefully) smooth Internet access while we attempt to address this problem.

Hi Pete, The iexplore.exe.mui file was the only exe. file visible, however there was an IE logo Ikon which one could double click on and open IE. That gave the same result as before.
I have three links to photobucket which i think clearly show where the problem is. The server name etc. has a conflict? Anyway i look forward to your reply.

I am puzzled as to why you do not see iexplore.exe in .....

    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Attached screenshot shows the files which should be present.

I suggest you attempt an uninstall of IE8 .....

How do I uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8?

    and then re-install it .....

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx

You need to get IE running properly before addressing the other problems shown in your screenshots. That is an area I do not feel totally competent to advise, but will make harmless suggestions ....

    Start > Run > cmd > Enter

In the command window which opens type at the flashing cursor .....

    ipconfig > Enter.

    Post the info given.

Okay Yes goto start > run type cmd Ok to that. Black box appears ? ok type
"IPCONFIG /All >Ipconfig.txt" which should appear as that named file in your documents and setting folder easy to post that. The Log file tend to show that despite being connected you can't talk to the Gateway on your Internet service provider, thats a guess, Ipconfig /all will tell you /us if you are actually talking to the internet or no. It does not resolve the issue of no IE7/8. Try the unistall of IE8. and get a copy of Firefox. More and more of the internet allows use of this product. It will sit quite nicely with IE but doesn't have all the security 'updates', yes I know it has been plugged/fixed lately but installing it will uncover or resolve the if the issue is only with IE or some underlying network problem that you may have as well. If you can get on a Browser (IE Firefox)to work you wil be hard pushed to go to this or that site to download this or that. You may as suggested have to get the downloads via someone/someplace that will allow you to do it.

Hi Will, Tried your suggestion and am none the wiser. I got NO response.
Think its time to drop IE, just gives problems. Everytime MS upgrades or presents some new security system we poor mortals (basicaly myself) feel obliged to follow the crowd. With all the risks out there one does not really have a choice. But the potential for conflicts just grows. No wonder problems accumalate.

    Thanks, Jules.

Hang on - we don't give up that easily :)

I think you have 2 problems here - one with IE and one with your internet connection ....

This image shows you have no Default Gateway The default gateway is the IP of the router. If not, it should be automatically assigned by your ISP (as should the DNS server). Without that you will not be able to connect to the Internet - with any browser.

I suggest you run WinsockFix and see if that resolves the problem.

For Internet Explorer the iexplore icon here is indeed iexplore.exe. I always assume - wrongly - that everyone has 'Hide extensions for known file types' in Folder Options > View unchecked so that all file extensions are shown. So if doubleclicking on that file gives you the unknown file message there is corruption in IE or somewhere and my suggestion in post #10 stands.

Install Firefox by all means and I shall be interested to learn if you can connect.

    Hey someones reading it!

Try again How are you getting on the internet to log on here? just an thought!
Download IE8 from here for XP

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...d5-8c3d-4347-8c03-08cdecd8852b&displaylang=en

    Firefox from here
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

As previously suggested it might be a Network problem and or a Browser problem

    Winsockfix Here
    http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlwinsockxpfix.html

Winsock is good but try the ipconfig /all >ipconfig .txt and post it back it wil help people see if you, do have a problem with your networking, and all the nasty things IT engineers deal with! DNS, routing, gateways etc

I have another pc which luckily is still capable of accessing the net, albeit in fits and starts. Will probably go over to Firefox when i get the other pc running properly.

    Thanks, Jules.

    Ipconfig. Result.

As you can see, this did not tell us much.

    http://s766.photobucket.com/albums/...n=view&current=ScreenDumpIEConnectioncopy.jpg

Problem is i have just three weeks to find somewhere to live, have only just started packing, need to buy a new car etc. Need the net to keep in contact with Estate Agents, so as you can see stress is becoming a problem.
Think i will have to dump IE on the bad pc and install Firefox once the connection is sorted.

    Thanks, Jules.

    IE Connection. SATISFACTION.

Decided to run "WinsockxpFix" as a last resort before returning to the boring things.
Success! Back in contact with the world. Ran quickly and reset; everything as it used to be. So now i can smile a bit while packing.

    Many thanks, Jules. :D
