Have been having a problem with icons disappearin;'g from the task bar by the clock. Mostly it is the volume icon, battery icon and sometimes the icon that shows my wireless connection.

I have searched the internet and found a few fixes but most of them were from years ago and didn't work.

I am running Win XP Pro, SP2.

Anyone have an up to date resolution?

    Thanks, John

Did you disable "auto hide" icons in the taskbar properties?

Did you look in Control Panel->SOUND and make sure the box to display the control is checked?

This irritating problem has been around for years and the solutions are years old, as you well know. I don’t know what you have tried but I’ve collected these, one of which you may not have tried:

    1. Go here Read the start of the article and then scroll down to item 320 in the left pane.

    2. Start > Run, type regedit, press Enter and navigate to registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify. In the right-pane there are two entries: IconStreams and PastIconsStream, right-click and delete them, then restart the computer.

    3. A few more suggestions here

I finally got around to trying some of these. #1 and 2 didn't work. I tried 2 of the things in #3 and it seems to have worked on my desptop which just started with the problem recently.

The real test will be doing it to my laptop that is the real problem it has been there since we have had it.

    Thanks for your help!

That link BurrWalnut provided points to hxxp://www.tech-pro.net/howto_013.html

While the "how to" information may be useful, one should proceed with caution because that domain is currently classified in the hpHosts database as "FSA ".
