    its a home build:

    ThermalTek Case: Element S
    PSU: Thermaltek 400W (model 400PP)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66 GHZ
MB: Gigabyte EP45T-UD3R (shop didn't recommend the DDR3 intel boards they had and said they wouldn't provide the 1 year warantee on them)
    RAM: 4times 2GB DDR3 (KINGSTON KVRD3N9)
    VGA: Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT
    Display: Acer P205H
System Disk: SeaGate barracuda 7200.11 320GB SATA
Data Disk: Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 1 TB SATA
Optical Drive: LG DVD writer SATA
    OS: Vista Ultimate

    - I have a small problem here, my VGA card doesn't have the regular blue plug output, so i had to get an adapter of some sort but no one here seems to know what those are called. ANS: DVI VGA Adapter

2nd Data disk should be a Samsung but recommendations are welcome.

Be glad you didn't get an Intel board; they are overpriced and under-'speced' ;)

I'd only comment on your PSU: 400W is the bare minimum that Nvidia says you need with the GeForce 9600 GT.

I also got a 430 W PSU Model:TT-430AL1NC that was supposed to replace the G-tec Power of my old PC.
I will switch them over the week end when adding my Data Disk.

    ty Arie

Edit: Also I found out that this shop carries Thermaltek cases and PSUs by mistake and the main dealer would have cost me over 400 extra for the Spedo case.

430W will barely make a difference. I think you need a 500W PSU to be safe at least. ;)

Lukeno1, thx for the additional info, hopefully today i will have that issue resolved.

just out of curiosity could my small PSU explain why sometimes my USB ports arent working? now as i said this was assembled by a friend so at 1st i figured he messed up in the wiring but it seems to me that i keep moving my mouse and keyboard from USB port to an other.

and this is the 1st time i use Vista (and Im not sure if this was because i hadn't installed SP1 yet) but i feel sometimes the PC hangs a bit (after the loading icon but before the Vista Logo) on a blank screen.

I have no USB mouse or keyboard but experience the same when my USB stick doesn't work. After, in device manager, disabling the power management (untick the box for "power saving ") for the USB port(s) it works well.

My old BOAC has a 250 W power supply, so, you may be on the right track ... ... but I don't think so. Neither a mouse/keyboard nor a USB stick is that power hungry.

No, but I can tell you from experience, if the USB ports aren't getting quite enough power (my experience was with a USB keyboard and mouse running in a 4-in-1 adaptor that we'd lost the external power connector for), they will intermittently freeze. If your PSU is right on the limit, then I would expect that to be a possible cause for your intermittent fault.

EDIT: Just seen your Vista comment. I have the same issue occasionally, but it usually doesn't last long. If it's a pain waiting, go and get a drink or something :D

i just used the power calc that was given to me in one of my older threads and it says power i need is just under 400W, link to calc

as far as my keyboard and Mouse my friend 9the one who assembled the PC says that issue is know in LG devices.

as far as power goes ill stick to the 400 now till i can find a thermalteck 600W thts is legit.

Is that everything at full load though? I know my 300W PSU is tight, but there's very little I can do until I get the next stage of parts.

500W would be more than enough I think.

k, i found nothing but unknown brands for power ranging from 500W to 900W.
ill take a look at ThermalTek site to see what they have around 500.

Luke, normally i don't pay much attention to brands for cases and power supplies, but my old pc (one posted in My system was nothing but trouble).

so i got what i consider a very high end machine so id prefer something good. i checked prices in US (i can get one from there in 10 days) 500W are about 75$ that's the price of brands such as 'point of view' or 'Focus' cost here

P.S. im in Lebanon, and the PSUs i have turned out to be fake thermalteks.

True, US parts are always cheaper. I specced up a combo PC, and the price it cost me, would be the same as buying the CPU and PSU over here, and that would be including the price of shipping! It's absolutely crazy!
