I bought an Acer Aspire 5536G - 644g32Mn 4 days Ago. I made a recovery disk for Vista.

Then Today... I was downloading Hybrid Theory, Linkin parks album off 4Shared.com Website a ZIP file, I downloaded Winrar first so I could Open it when it had downloaded it. Massey doesn't like people downloading p2p or music downloads. They have posters all around saying not to download music on the internet. The internet connection I was connected to was the Universities proxy network. Then All of a sudden computer like reboots and tells me this...

PXE - E61: Media test failure, Check cable
PXE - MOF: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
    Operating system not found

Is this a virus, or worm????? Or is this Massey remotely shutting down my computer because they saw me downloading music????? Even though that sounds a bit ridiculous.

Please help, I am only a beginner on the computer espeially Vista.

Please please please help, It would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

    Cheers,
    James

First of all file sharing is not generally a good idea. Lots of nasties hiding in those files. Besides that you never know exactly who these files are coming from.

To my knowledge(which is limited), not possible. Maybe, but I don't think so.
They might be able to prevent you from accessing the network.

Very likely. Are you runnng any kind of realtime virus protection or other anti-malware utility.
    If so, what?

If the computer still won't boot into the OS, I'd say it's a good thing you made the recovery disks.

Be patient and one of the staff members will get to your thread for review, and more than likely be able to help you get through this.

The message that you got means that the system has tried to boot from a network. In most systems this happens after it tries to access the hard drive.

I'd first check the boot order in your BIOS to see if you can select to boot from the hard drive (I believe it's either F2, F10, or F12 on an Acer)

If that doesn't work, then I'd try a bootable hard drive diagnositic: http://usasma.vox.com/library/post/bootable-hard-drive-diagnostics.html

If that passes, then I'd try Startup Repair: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

Hi there everyone. I just used recovery disks and reformated the harddrive. It was worth it because I didn't have much on my computer anyway.

    Cheers,
    James

That's why USASMA advised you to run a disk diagnostic, which would have most likely told you the drive was/is failing.
