Any flat-screen 4:3 monitors available?

And this is where I get confused as to why people need multi monitors, unless you're playing lots of games in splitscreen. :D

I don't play games. I work these forums when I get an email notice saying there is a new thread, or a reply. So my mail client is open, and off to the side, but still in plain view. But I don't know all the answers, and usually want to verify those that I do know, so I usually have several IE windows open with my search results - scattered about, but still in view. It would be like having a TV tray for all your paperwork, or a big desk.

AH HA!! So in effect, you've been using an ultra-wide screen monitor but refuse to admit it! :D

For me switching to 16:10 (isn't that what most all of them are) was one of those things like switching from CRT to LCD, you just never look back. I just think there are a lot of things (like spreadsheets) that just do better on a WS. Maybe part of it is that we have more ease in moving our eyes left/right than we do up/down...just a theory.

I do a lot of combat gaming on my WS LCD so getting a widescreen was a no-brainer.

I know some serious power-users and I feel that their use of multiple monitors is completely understandable.

There aren't a lot of 4:3 LCDs out there but there still are a lot of 5:4 ones. Here's a link 5:4 LCDs. They are mostly 17" and 19 ":

And here are some 4:3 ones at Newegg:

For what its worth, The Samsung SyncMaster 204t is a pretty decent 21.3" 4:3 monitor which rotates to landscape or portrait. I run two of these on my Vista box but my current favorite is a 26" SyncMaster 2693HM - and it's a widescreen which also rotates.

    ;)

Actually, if you do use multiple monitors, you just might want to stick with 4:3 or 5:4 LCDs or you might develop neck strain turning from one end to the other. :D

5:4? Never seen that, though I have seen resolutions that work out as that... :p 600x480 is 5:4, but who uses that any more? :D

If anyone is still interested in this thread - I walked into Lidl today and picked up an LG Flatron 22" LCD for €90 (£80), plugged it in and promptly retired my Acer 22" 16/9 screen from my desk.
The LG 22" runs at 1680 x 1050 so gives me almost the same height as the Samtron 19" running 4/3 (1280 x 1024) beside it, and it is hard to see any difference in the icon or text sizes. Certainly gives more landscape area in Photoshop but I don't know how many are around.
