    Hi all,

OK, I backup my main drive on a regular basis to an external drive and I store it outside the computer.

What I would like to know is: When my motherboard or CPU takes a dirt nap, the drivers, etc., for the new MB\CPU will be different. Is there a way to strip the "old" drivers and install new drivers on the backup drive if the original drive gets munged in the process of the MB\CPU going bad?

What you can do now is attempt to remove all the manufacturers' drivers, e.g. motherboard, graphics and the like. Effectively, leave the machine with just the Microsoft drivers.

This will cut you back to the bare minimum and perhaps some things will not work correctly. Once you have this ‘basic’ set up, clone it in readiness for that fatal day that you are predicting. To get back to a working machine, you will, of course, have to reload all the drivers you have just removed.

You can backup all the drivers on your existing system using Double Driver. It is an excellent little program that allows you to backup, restore, view, save and print all the drivers on your system. Download it, unzip it and install it, from here
