I have some trouble with small screens that asks me to put my user and password to connect to my proxy server. I dont want that software (sometimes its Java) to connect and is annoying to be working on somthing and then be interrupted by that screens. How can I avoid that screens without using a firewall?
The OS is Windows XP sp2, and I already have an antivirus software with a firewall included, but it doesnt stop my problem.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you're on a dialup connection? If not please confirm your connection type.

It's possible that Java and perhaps other software is only looking for an update. Another more alarming issue is some type of malware.

Let's try disableing auto dial up first, go to control panel -> Internet Options -> click on the connections tab and select "Never dial a connection ". Let us know if that works and more importantly whether or not you suspect malware.

I use the LAN connection of my workplace, so the "Never dial a connection" is not selectable on the Internet Options. Sometimes its Java the one trying to connect to the ip of the proxy server.

About the malware I already checked that and nothing seems to be there, so maybe they are updates of some software. It doesnt shows any software name on the showed window, so I dont know which software tries to update (other than Java of course)

    Thanks, helps a bit.

As you've only seen Java do this let's try stopping it from looking for updates.

Control Panel -> Java -> Update Tab -> and clear the check mark in "Check for updates automatically ".

    Let us know the outcome.

Thanks for the answer, until now there are no more windows appearing.:)
There is a way to know which other programs are connecting or trying to connect? (looking for malware for example)

If the popups still haven't appeared I wouldn't worry about Malware now DarthSycho, as far as other software goes it's up to you to look for auto update options (if available) and turn them off. Be sure to manually check for updates every so often though.

If you're happy may I draw your attention to a new feature of the boards regarding marking threads as solved.
