I recently developed a problem with Internet Explorer 6.0 in that when trying to copy a picture it will only do it in bitmap mode. Even with a JPEG, it will only show "untitled" and then no JPEG option, even under "save as ". It also opens windows as a small box when clicking a link that opens a new window. This happens even though I enlarge the last window closed.

I did find a site that said the problem may be in the registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.JPG and then under Contact Type. I can't find this folder with the .jpg after it or any "Contact Type" listed.

Any help is appreciated. I am running Windows XP Professional and the other accounts on it work fine.

    Thanks

This came off an MS newsgroup site
"Sometimes, if you right-click an image in Internet Explorer and choose Save Picture As, the list of available types in the Save As dialog box will not contain .jpg, .gif, or .png. It will either contain both .bmp and .art, or only .bmp. Here are two procedures that may fix this problem.

    1) To empty your Temporary Internet Files cache
In Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
On the General tab, click Delete Files.

    2) To turn off graphic compression in the AOL client
    Go to Preferences in AOL.
Click Internet properties (or WWW in some versions).
    Click Web Graphics.
Clear Never compress graphics (or Use compressed graphics in some versions). "

Abraxas has suggested the first fix, but, if does not solve the problem, and you use AOL, you could try the second.

That second suggestion ought to be followed by anyone on AOL with a connection faster than 14.4!
Have you seen the quality of these compressed images?

They would lead you to believe that the internet was invented by van Gogh, rather than, of course, Al Gore. ;)
