I just battled the hard drive full bug, I found that in ie8 there was a log, (text file) named iexporer.exe.exp that had 35g in it
You'll need to delete and dump the trash bin, then remove ie8, and reinstall but do not participate in ms sharing info whan asked. Thats how I got rid of it and got my drive back. I won't mention the all night session running trojan trappers and antivirus progs looking for the problem... it never showed up

IE8 has given me so many problems I don't think I'd ever reinstall it-- I'd go from 7 to 9. Anyways, I declined that offer to share my info with MS. I recall seeing something like that on the "new installation" page when I first opened it up.

    iexporer.exe.exp
No text file can have .exe, or .exp extension.
It must be some malware, because there is no Windows file named "iexplorer ".
Legit file for IE is "iexplore.exe ", and a legit file for Windows Explorer is "explorer.exe ".

Look I know what I saw and saved, (I've got it isolated on a 40G External USB drive) so first off never say "NEVER ", second thing is I've found the same thing on several machines across our metropolitan area, so what ever it is it's there and even though you say a text file can not have an exp extention.... it does
the file is plainly marked iexplorer.exe.exp

...and I'm telling you one more time...
There is no LEGIT file named iexplorer
The only two legit files with similar names are:
    - iexplore.exe (no "r ")
    - explorer.exe (no "i ")
All "iexplorer" files, I'm aware of, are of malicious type.

I can see 5 Google hits about iexplore.exe.exp.log (no "r ") file, which IS a text file, but 5 Google hits doesn't make the above file legit, and I have no idea what that file is for.

okay you're the expert, but read every once and awhile I said it was "iexplorer.exe.exp "
I know a .exe is an executable file, and I know that most .exp files are trojans, but when you find this in machines, across a spectrum of users, in various security set-ups it makes you wonder whats going on.
Oh by the way... expert x is an unknown and spert is a drip under pressure :)

Open Windows Explorer, go Tools>Folder options>View tab.
Do you have "Hide extensions for known file types" checked?
If so, remove checkmark, restart Windows Explorer, and look at that file again.
    It may say IEXPLORE.EXE.EXP.LOG
    iexplorer.exe.exp (with "r ") doesn't bring a single hit on Google.
