I regularly visit a political blog site www.dailykos.com. For the past 2 weeks, that site loads very slowly (over 15 minutes and only after after 2 or 3 refreshes) and that too without the pictures and embedded gif buttons when accessed through my normally high speed BB.

My BB (256 KB DSL) loads my other websites very fast.

The strange thing is that this above site actually loads faster through my dial up and also the site loads fully with pictures by dial-up. But with BB, it is slow and not loading fully.

I disabled the Kaspersky internet security and other spyware programs. I reinstalled the browser (slimbrowser which works on IE shell), but no dice. I even tried with firefox and google chrome browsers but still the site is still very slow to load via BB.

What could be the problem ?

Hard to say with the information provided.

Run a trace route & see what it tells you...

By trace route, do you mean pinging ?

I did that with following results.

    Ping statistics for 208.122.51.48

    Packets sent : 4 Packets received : 4 Lost : 0

App. round trip time in milliseconds

    Min - 266 ms Max - 270 ms Ave - 268 ms

No. Traceroute is something much more useful.

Nope, nothing there. I can only suggest to clear your Temp Internet files, although it's doubtful that'll do anything.

You'll have to contact your provider, but I'm pretty sure that'll get you nothing either.

Thanks Arie. Clearing caches, temp internet files, Ccleaner etc. - Nothing works.

I have printed the screen of that site. Is there anyway I can upload that 600 KB doc file here so that you can take a look at it ?

The response times are WAY too high. The networks are congested or having hardware problems.

Yes, but that's only on one trace, and on dial-up, the one that according to amkeew is working better than cable.

    Sorry, no.

You could post it on any free site, but I wouldn't open a word file from an unknown source anyway. A text file yes. But you should just post what you want to post.... if it is relevant.

WindowsBBS Contributing Members can post attachments (bmp gif jpeg jpg pdf png txt zip).

Well, the issue got resolved today. After nagging my ISP, I got this from them

"Hence we suspect the site administrator might be blocking some our IP Pool and hence we have taken up the case with our NOC. We hope it will be resolved within a day or two. "

I don't know what that means but am just happy the nightmare is over.

Thank you guys for your time and tips. I learnt what a route trace is. :)

IP Pool: an ISP owns a fixed quantity of IP addresses. To connect to the ISP network via their modem, they auto assign an address to you dynamically, meaning that the address will change periodically. When an address in not in use(assigned out to someone) it goes back into a "pool ". Addresses can be pulled from the pool as needed.

    NOC = Network Operations Center.

They are saying that the admin of www.dailykos.com was blocking some of your ISP IP addresses. This is entirely possible if a site has forums or site areas where public can post data, use messaging, etc. The admin may block an address because the person may be spamming or posting illegal or foul content. Or the admin may view the site logs and see that hacking attempts are coming from a certain block of IP addresses and block them or throttle back the bandwidth (cause the site to be slow for them).

Thanks Tony. It was an informative post. You're right. That site has many forums where one can post data, images etc. How do you think my ISP resolved the issue with the site admin ? By removing the offensive IP addresses from its pool and informing the site admin ?

No, your ISP had to convince the site owner to remove the block. It's totally up to him, his choice. Unlikely the ISP will abandon IP addresses.
