It seems I'm frequently going into our two computers (every month or so) to reset the Sys bar Properties check off boxes because one of the start up icons has changed from "Always Show" to "Hide When Inactive ".

For the life of me, I don't understand how the Always Show fix doesn't hold all the time. It seems that every couple of months some other icon has the same problem.

    Any suggestions?

Try removing two registry keys but create a system restore point first, just in case anything goes wrong.

Start > Run, type regedit, press Enter and navigate to registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify. In the right-pane there are two entries: IconStreams and PastIconsStream, right-click and delete them, then restart the computer.
