I have always been able to connect via remote desktop. I rebuilt my machine and now it doesn't work. I have xp 3. I have systemsuite 9. I started most of the services that are called remote...
I checked for remote desktop in my control panel.
I'm using a slightly older Linksys wireless router, hard wired, but I didn't change any settings there from before. I checked for the newest ip address.

What happens when you try to connect? You should be getting some sort of message..

Did you check the firewall settings?

I have an Atheros phantom driver on my system from a prior motherboard and can't get rid of it. "The Computer Can't Connect to the remote Comptuer. Try again. "

Do you get an error message when you run telnet <IP address> 3389 from a command prompt?

The <IP address> should be the address of the computer you try to connect to, and you should run the command on the computer where you are trying to initiate the RD connection from.

This is what I got from a computer that is hard wired to the router: Connecting To 192.168.1.10...Could not open connection to the host, on port 3389
    : Connect failed

I typed your code without the carrots.
    Thank you for this assist.

No. I think I did what you told me. I typed it in another computer. This other computer, Slave, is hard wired to the router. My Master is also hard wired there but in the main port.

I stated that wrong. It's unchanged from how it used to work. The Master is hooked from the Comcast modem to the main port of the router.

The firewall is turned ON by default when you first load Windows. Are you certain you've been in and turned it off?

I have rebuilt my systems many times and added various firewall products. I have also rebuilt or added new connections with new motherboards. EACH TIME I turn off the windows firewall.

Run this command (Start > Run > cmd) on the computer you are trying to connect to:

netstat -a -o and press [Enter]

Look for an entry for TCP port 3389 with a State of Listening. Take a note of the Process Identifier (PID). The PID of the process or service using that port appears under the PID column.

Next, type tasklist /svc (and press [Enter]). Look for an entry for the PID number that is associated with the port (from the netstat output). The services or processes associated with that PID will appear on the right.

    Post those details here.
