I was given a Compaq Presario that had crashed. I Finally got the QuickRestore to work, thanks to this website, but in the process lost the Windows XP Home that had been installed.
My question is, can I reinstall it just using the product key on the sticker? Microsoft wants $60 just to talk to me about it.
It came with Windows ME and I can't get online with it, so I'll need to download to a disk to reinstall, if it's possable.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
    p.s.
I don't have access to the original CD.

When you did the quick restore - did you restore Windows ME?

To get XP Home on there you'll need an XP Home key and key code.

Which basically means that the key on the computer sticker is for Me.

Maybe I wasn't very clear about the problem. The computer came from the factory with Me. XP was installed when it was customized, so the sticker reads, Windows XP Home Edition. I only have the code that is on the sticker, which is the product key.
I can't find the correct location at Microsoft to verify the key. It connects to THIS computer, so nothing matches. Maybe I should just call Microsoft and find out from them?

    Yes.
The Quickrestore does a factory restore. XP was installed later by Compaq when they customized it.

Thank you. I must have missed that, or just didn't ask the right search question.
