Have installed Norton IS 2009 and in the process choose to delete AdAware, Webroot Spy Sweeper and Anti Malwarebytes to avoid potential problems. Don't feel I have enough protection and wonder if anyone has experienced conflicts betwee NIS 2009 and other malware, spyware programs? Second question would ask opinions about best combo for protection using primary anti virus program along with additional spyware, malware.

    Thanks for any info ...

The only problem I've had is it's a resource hog on startup and it keeps shutting down my windows defender. I've had no problems with webroot running, just defender...

Personally, I don't like Norton at all, but since you bought it, you'll have to live with it.
I don't recommend Ad-aware either. It's more of a tool of the past, and it runs unnecessary service, even if you don't actually use the program.

    My two top choices:
    - SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition: http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html
    - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (trial version is fully functionable): http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
They don't run in real-time (unless you have paid version), so they don't conflict with anything.
    You run them on occasion.
If you want to buy one of them, perfect.
1 AV, 1 firewall, 1 real-time antispyware should run with no problem.

Thanks for the comments. I loaded Spy Sweeper and the only problem was it kept changing my home page ... not a big problem but irritating. I plan to try Defender and also will plan to add the Anti Malwarebytes and go from there. I may uninstall Spy Sweeper and/or Defender after a few days of experience. Thanks again ...

Thanks for the comments. Think I'll use Spy Sweeper and/or Anti Malwarebytes to the NIS 2009. May try the Defender as I get some experience with the other combo. Thanks again. I feel much better now with the suggestions from others who have some experience with internet security. If you have any other suggestions, pls post them. Oh yes, the NIS 2009 has a firewall which replaced Zone Alarm on my computer.

    Hi rebar5058,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

Spysweeper is a real-time scanner and can definitely cause conflicts with Norton Internet Security 2009. Malwarebytes is an on-demand scanner and should not cause conflicts. While some users have been able to have Windows Defender running alongside Norton Internet Security, there is still the possibility that a conflict could occur. For optimal protection and to avoid conflicts, I would strongly urge you to remove Spysweeper and disable Windows Defender. Norton Internet Security 2009 uses very few system resources and as long is there are no conflicting software packages installed, you should not experience any system performance issues.

You should never have more than one real-time internet security product installed and running at the same time. Otherwise, the software conflicts that can arise will leave your system vulnerable to infections.

To ensure that you are protected against the latest threats, please check to make sure that both "Pulse Updates" and "Automatic LiveUpdates" are enabled in Norton Internet Security 2009. Also, make sure that you are using the latest version which is "16.5.0.135. "

    Thank you,
    Mike

Hi Mike: Thanks for your comments and suggestions about NIS 2009 conflicts. Yes, I am running version 16.5.0.135 and also have Pulse Update and Automatic LIveUpdates enabled. I finally decided against SpySweeper and have chosen Malwarebytes to be used with NIS 2009. Thanks again ...
