In terms of experience, I am between novice and intermediate. I have been using XP and Windows Works 8 for one year, and I had no problem until now.

When I attempt to use the Works Word Processor, I receive the following error message: "This application has failed because WkWbl.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." All other Works applications still function, but I cannot even gain access to existing documents composed with the Works Word Processor even though they are still there on my C: drive and a floppy through the A: drive.

I have attempted to uninstall the entire Works, and I have failed to be successful.

I have attempted to install Works 8 from the Internet in order to supplant the Works 8 on my system, and I have been told that Works 8 already exists and nothing more is said or done.

I do have the Works 8 and Money cd, so if I can uninstall the present copy on my system, I would have no problem reinstalling it from the cd or the Internet.

Please advise me how to uninstall the existing Works 8 on my system or what else I can do in order to restore access to Works Word Processor. Thank you.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Does the file actually exist on your system? ....

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WkWbl.dll
In what way - error messages, ....? I have Works 9 and hitting the Change button in Add/Remove Programs gives 2 options - Reinstall or Remove. Do you have that option with 8?
Any copy on the internet is unlikely to be genuine, more likely pirated, but why did you not use the CD ??

If the Works uninstaller is not working try an uninstall using Revo Uninstaller - do read how to use it first, noting in particular that only registry entries in bold should be deleted - back up your registry before doing anything :)

If you are still unable to install Works run the Microsoft Works Clean Up Utility

If you still have problems try running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and remove any references to Works.

    And a BTW .....

    PeteC,

Thanks for the help. I used Revo Uninstaller, and it allowed me to uninstall MS Works 8. Thanks also for the tip about the bold entries!

However, I still have the problem that the Works 8 and Money cd will not work. When I run it, nothing shows up on the monitor and nothing occurs except that I can see the green light flashing in the drive bay for about 30-45 seconds while I also hear it running, and then both stop. I know that my cd drive is working, because I have been using it for audio cds. Can you hlp me out with this problem?

Hope I got the paragraphs right this time:)

It may well be that autorun is disabled - securitywise this is a good thing, so open the contents of the CD in Windows Explorer and double click on setup.exe to install.
Absolutely fine and so much easier to read than a block of text

    PeteC,

    Thanks again.

Windows Works 8 is now installed.

I am having another problem with it--it does not want to let me print my texts--but I do not have the time to deal with it now. I will be back to you later with the precise message that it sends in order to seek your help again.

BTW: Sorry about the "hlp" in my last message to you:)

    Take care.

    PeteC,

I would like to put the printing problem on the back burner for a while, because I have a more annoying problem at the moment, and I believe it belongs in this same forum.

I have attached the following problem to this thread because you have been so helpful and I know that I can reach you here. I hope that you do not think that I am taking advantage of you. If not, I will have one or two more problems--in addition to the printing problem--to discuss with you in the near future. You have a great site here!

Yesterday and today, several times at different reliable sites and with different startups I have had a failure of my computer to redirect when I have used a hyperlink for that purpose. And I receive no error message or the like, simply nothing occurs, even when I wait a few minutes. Again, this is not something that has occurred in the past year. Obviously, that failure has not occurred on your site or I would not be here. Is there something I might do to correct this problem.

BTW: I should mention that in addition to other security I have Norton 360 v. 3.0, so I am relatively certain that I do not have a malware problem.

Thanks again in advance for any aid that you might offer.

We like to keep one problem to one thread - multiple problems not only confuse a thread, but other members will not be drawn in to contribute as the thread title indicates only the initial problem.

Please start a new thread for your supplementary problem (and others) in the appropriate forum - the Internet Explorer forum is appropriate if you are using IE. If you are using Firefox post in the Firefox forum. For other browsers the Other Software or General Internet forums are appropriate.

I visit the BBS daily and scan all threads and get involved in those I can contribute to.

Thanks for the information about the site etiquette. It makes sense. I will start a new thread for each of my problems for the sake of others who might have similar problems.

    Pete,

As mentioned before, I have resolved the problem of uninstalling Works 8, so I will post that as resolved.

I still need to get back to the printing problem, but I will start a different thread for that when I have the time--it's complicated. It has three different error messages! I've written them down, but I need the time on my home computer to report them here--I'm using a library computer with time limits at the moment--and I'm in the process of replacing a bad modem.

    Steven
