Several times, but not always, at different reliable sites and with different startups, I have had a failure of IE8 to redirect to the desired site or page when I have used a hyperlink for that purpose.

I receive no error message or notification that the page cannot be found. Nothing--even if I wait a few minutes--except the text at the bottom stating: "redirect" and then the address for the redirect.

Obviously, that has not happened on this site, or this message would not be here. Does anyone have an idea as to the solution other than to find the sites responsible?

    First ....

Clear out your Temporary Internet files and set IE to delete the TIF's when the browser is closed (Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and scroll down to the Security section - 'Empty Temp Internet Files folder when browser closed' and test.

When you fail to get a redirect do any of the following work ....

    Hitting the Refresh button

    Hitting the Compatibility button

Right clicking on hyperlink > Open in new tab

Right clicking on hyperlink > Open in new window

Right clicking on hyperlink > Copy shortcut and paste into the Address bar > Enter

Posting the URL of a typical problematic site and the hyperlink from the page would be helpful for independent testing.

    Peter,

    Problem resolved.

I cleared out the Temporary Internet Files. Then I used a right click on the hyperlink and a left click on Open in New Folder, and the new page appeared. I tried it with a couple of sites, and it worked both times.

    Thanks again for your aid:)

    Pete,

Thanks again for the site etiquette:) I had wondered about how to post that a problem had been resolved.
