Hello, I have a LG E500 laptop and it is less than 1 year old. My problem first started when my disc drive wouldn't open. I have fixed this problem now it wont automatically play dvd/cd's. I purchased an online game to play and now it wont install. I have tried regedit and that has not worked

Please help, it would be greatly appreciated:(

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)
If insert a CD/DVD and go to Windows Explorer do you see the contents of the CD/DVD when you double click on the drive?

Can you run the CD/DVD through Windows Explorer?

How did you 'fix' the drive opening problem? - seems possible you fouled something else up at the same time.
I don't see the connection here between the download and the optical drive - did you download a .exe file or an image file .iso? An exe file will run by doubleclicking on it through Windows Explorer - an iso file must be burnt to CD/DVD using the 'burn image' command in your burning software - a straight copy of a .iso file to CD/DCD will not run.

Post the file extension of the download.

Please always post your OS - I assume it is Vista?

Sorry, i meant it will not install as in the games disc i had purchased would not load, i have not made any downloads for the game. Yeah sorry it is Vista and i fixed the dvd drive by using a paperclip in the whole in the disc drive, could this pose a problem?

If insert a CD/DVD and go to Windows Explorer do you see the contents of the CD/DVD when you double click on the drive?

The disc does not come up in my computer as there is no "d:/" in my computer

    Please still help

Normally no as that is the method to be used to manually open the drive tray when it refuses to open. Some manufacturer's even include a tailor made 'paperclip' for this purpose - Asus.

Has the drive worked OK since using the manual ejection process?- up to now that is.
The drive is not being recognised by Windows and may have failed. Go to Device Manager and see if it is listed there .....

Orb/Start button > Control Panel > Device Manager

Should be listed under DVD/CD-ROM drives - click on the + sign to expand.

If the drive is not shown it is almost certain that it has failed.
    Still under warranty :)

    So, unfortunately .....
or something else has failed, maybe the connection to the motherboard. If you open up the case to check you will invalidate the guarantee.

Seems your only option is to return the laptop under warranty .
