Uninstall roxio, I know I know what for? Just try Nero 5.5 & see if you have improvement. I reckon your hp burner isn't burnproof?
Ya gotta uninstall one software before loading another tho

    No offence Rancher, BUT...

I installed Nero as a Primary FIRST choice a long time ago...
It ran fine, then started a few months ago to turn out coasters.

That is when I started installing different programs, with the latest as Roxio CD Creator 5.02 Platinum.

As soon as the computer is not being used, and I feel up to it. Then I will break it down and check the cables for priorities.
Then reinstall set the Priorities on the Burner according to what was mentioned.

Burn a Cd or two to see what is happening. and go for it...
It works, then it works, It don't well, I have a new CD burner coming in next week. but that one is mine, and this one is my borther in laws...

    Cd Victoria

Cd Victoria is the Capitol city of the State of Tamaulipas
approximately 300 Km south fo the border from Brownsville, Texas
I it at the base of the Seirra's, on basically Flat ground similar to Denver Colorado's location in relation to the Rockies.

Terrain is flat with rolling hills, a few rivers, clumped scattered tree's.
in the 100's in the summer, and around 35 to 45 degree's in teh winter.

What is strange, is you can actually drink and enjoy the water from the faucet WITHOUT having to have it distilled or purified. Victoria is NOT an industrial based city.
Has 2-3 Universities, and is basically similar to a college town.

Very smart people for the major part.
Most of the adults in my wifes family have University degree's of one type or another.

    That help any...?

Geez Jerry, ya don't talk much, eh<grin> My wife & I traveled Mexico quite a bit til '92. Been to Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Guadalahara, Xtapa etc etc. Did the two months at atime thing being from Fairbanks (yep 40 below zero rite now) it was nice to hit the Mex Riveaira Jan thru Feb. Do you have a good internet connection? Costly? When we were there the fon lines were mighty iffy! Are you able to mailorder from the states ok?

Not much, only when I get the chance..:)

however, I travel to the states the first of each month. so getting things here is not a problem.
As for connection, I am dealing with a 56K line. Hope to move up to a 128K in maybe a few months, but that depends entirely on costs. As it is it is over a $100.00 just for installation.

Above that and it is WAY out of my budget.

    Costly...?

Nope, the costs are almost negligible.
Runs for a normal line about $40.00 a month, then add in another 20-30 for Access. Average about $70.00 a month.
With the 128 bit line, it will run about $100 a month. a bit more, but not much.

Hi Rancher, nope, Would not mind, BUT, I went to the web site, and it had no listing for how much it cost, nor what you get for what you pay..

My money is very tight and very small, Right now I can't afford it.

I will have to put that on hold for awhile. Starband that is.

However, fixed, I think tyhe HP Burner..
I followed another line and moved the cable connection so that I had an ide drive & a cd drive conencted on each line.
The computer changed it around, but am now no longer having any conflicts.. I burned my back up cds yesterday and today.

When I can, going to format C: and Install Windows XP from scratch. And then install the New CD Burner I just bought and configure it..

Too much garbage installed on this thing... :)

Just noting for others, I use Adaptec 4.03. Every once in a while, I have to uninstall and reinstall the thing. It seems to get Alzheimer's after about 150 burns.

i had the same thing happen to me...except i was getting an error that i thought was the software..it turned out the laser on my burner went whacky....so i bought a new burner (a plextor 40x12x40) and now everything is fine again....it would've cost just as much to realign the laser as to buy a new one....it writes and reads just fine....ONLY FASTER!

OK, so you are going to pitch HP and install a new burner. If you were still trying to resolve your problem, I would have brought your attention to the Roxio website and what it says about certain HP CDRW drives. I might have also been able to point you to a couple of reasons why you can't just run standard Easy CD Creator upgrades, but I won't waste your time.
    ;)
