    Hello All,
I have a ASUS K8VMX mother board and a case that has a front panel audio connection.I tried everything but I cant get my mic at the front panel to work. The audio and mic at the back is fine.
However only the audio works for the front panel but not the MIC.

The connections on the Mother board is as follows :
    MIC IN - - AGND
    MIC PWR - - +5VA
    Line Out R - - B Line Out R
    NC -
    Line Out L - - B Line Out L

    - represent the Pins

The front panel wire has MIC IN,MIC PWR,Line Out R,B Line Out R,Line Out L,B Line Out L and AGND

However its not having the wire connector for +5VA. I dont know if this is the issue ? However in this configuration the audio works pretty fine !!

Pls help me out.Is my case missing a wire for the +5VA to be connected to the Mother board or am have I dont something wrong ?

    Thanks a lot folks
    Alex

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Without a +5VA wire the mic will not work - are you sure that there is not another wire hidden somewhere? If the cable is missing this is strange as the other mic cables are clearly present. I take it that the mic/audio connectors are individual plugs rather than a moulded multiplug.

The audio is an output from the motherboard and does not require a power supply.

No I checked the whole cabinet for loose wires but other apart from the ones for Fan F1 and F2.
Yes they are individual plugs. It really surprised me that the +5VA cable could be missing from the assembly. The wires are all grouped into a sheath so there is no way someone forgot to add the extra wire since the wires are all bundled into a sheath.

Is it possible I could divert this +5VA from another pin on the mother board ?
Or must I use a self powered mic ?

Me too, but if you have a handbook for the case or get one online that may confirm/deny the provision of the cable.
Could be that the manufacturer anticipated the use of a self powered mic.
I would not think that possible.
Seems that way unless other members have a different opinion :)

MIC PWR is the power for the MIC, you don't need the +5VA connection.

My front panel was working fine on my old ASUS A8N-SLI Premium board, but doesn't work on my new Asus P6T WS Professional board (well, the Mic & speakers don't work).

My case is Cooler Master Centurion 5.

    Guys - some update.
I could get the front MIC to work by selecting an option (it was a hidden option !!) on the SoundMAX control panel thats used to adjust my sounds/equalizer settings.
but now I can only use MIC from one of the ports - front or back which each time I have to select on the SoundMAX software.
Any idea if there is a setting/jumper setting that lets me use this without selecting it each time on SoundMAX ?

That is probably to prevent you from using 2 mics simultaneously. At least you have the front port working which was your original problem :)
