    Hello

I've just created for 4 users on the D: partition "Documents and Settings" folder and moved the system config to point there.
I have read now the Moving Windows XP default folders Rev1 article but there is no hint for my problem ...
Everything is ok i.e. all 4 users have there My Pictures etc. on the D: drive
BUT everyone can see the other documents.
In the original place only the user and admin can see in "Documents and Settings/UserX "
This seems to be a permission problem.
I have moved the User folder with the "xp own utility" "start->[right click] My Documents Properties" and set the new drive and moved the orig data.

Now my question I cannot see any special permissions set to the orig place only the readonly attribut.
BTW: Yes the D: drive is a ntfs partition ...

Any hints how to set permissions? Is there a default permission for the whole drive? If so how can I access it?

Thanks a lot for any help

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

Read Only is a file attribute, not a permission.

You set permissions in folder Properties (Security tab).

Do some reading in Help and Support.

Have you set any folders (or maybe the D: drive) as "Shared "?

I have not enabled file sharing. I cannot set the folder privat because of this or not?
Nor the original place nor the new place allows me to set permission so I was wondering if windows installation does use permissions even this is not enabled...
To make a folder private I do have to enable file sharing?
Sorry I'm using unix/linux, I try to help an other person ...

Greetings and thanks a lot for any help

    Yes now it works. Thanks.
I had to disable simplified sharing.
It's strange that windows does not copy the right permissions if you move the folders with the system own stuff but ...

    Thanks a lot and greetings
